RESEARCH ION IMPLANTED POLYMERS FOR SOFT ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS
Research aimed at understanding and utilising ion implantation as a means to create polymer based electronic circuitry. This involved the production of samples with equipment used in the making of microelectronic circuitry, including: sputter coaters, thermal evaporators, spin coaters, ion implanters, etc. It also involved various characterisation methods, including: RBS, elastic recoil detection, XPS, FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, STM, AFM, and electrical measurements.
University of Queensland
ION IMPLANTED POLYMERS
Conducted research into the development of uncooled infrared bolometers by ion implantation processes into normally insulating polymers. Utilised various specialised processing equipment, including: ion implanter, thermal evaporation unit, RF sputter coater and mask aligner. US patent resulted from this research, as well as developed material currently being investigated at the University of Queensland.
Southwest Missouri State University
ULTRA-HIGH VACUUM INSTRUMENTATION
Developed system to use an UHV electron beam gun to accomplish MBE deposition of copper and tantalum films onto silicon substrates for microelectronic circuitry. Also developed UV-Vis-Near IR spectroscopic system to study such films. MBE system is currently in use for study of high purity, highly organised thin films, and spectrographic system is used by various groups for characterisation of materials.
Southwest Missouri State University
SOLAR SPECTROSCOPY
Developed system to study Ca II emission lines of solar spectrum utilising a 3/4 metre spectrometer, a 10 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and an astronomical grade CCD camera. System measured sunspot variances in Ca II emission in the K absorption band.
University of Missouri-Rolla
SCANNING TUNNELING MICROSCOPE
Developed a STM from basic components for the study of atomic scale surface structures. System is used for study of atomic scale surfaces.
University of Missouri-Rolla
